Symptoms of Candida

Symptoms of Candida

Candida is so difficult to diagnose because it can affect different parts of the body, in different people, in different ways. The symptoms overlap with a myriad of other conditions, so it is often misdiagnosed or simply overlooked, in an effort to treat the superficial effects. We are given antibiotics for a throat infection, pain medications for muscle or joint pains, or simply be called a hypochondriac because the treatments offered do nothing for the underlying condition of Systemic Candida and all that it entails.

A person with Candida overgrowth may have only 2 or 3 of these symptoms, or may identify with many. It is thought that there are over 100 different symptoms that can be experienced by different people with Systemic Candida. All of these symptoms caused by Candida overgrowth either improve or disappear with effective treatment.

Fortunately, nobody has all of these symptoms.  Which ones you have, are an indication of where the fungal infection settles and which organs it invades. Of course, many of these symptoms can be caused by things other than Candida as well, but by first clearing the Candida, you can see if there are any symptoms left to deal with. Often any symptoms shown below, will be eliminated with the elimination of the Candida Albicans.

Early symptoms that indicate that the Candida fungus has overgrown the gut. They typically deal with the alimentary canal from the mouth to the large intestines.:

  • Bloating
  • Acid reflux
  • Gas, flatulence
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea, stomach cramps
  • Nausea
  • Sore Throat
  • Thrush, canker sores, bleeding gums, cracked tongue
  • Mucus in stool
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Itching anus
  • It can also include chronic ear infections, and sinus drainage

Once the Infection has escape the digestive system and reached the bloodstream, it will travel to vital organs, like the Central Nervous System, including the Brain, or the Reproductive System.

Some of the symptoms listed below may sound “normal,” because the Candida problem is so common in today’s world. It can seem like “everybody” has at least some of these. We must remember that NONE of these symptoms are necessary. “Common” is not the same as “normal”, and certainly not the same thing as healthy.

As the infection becomes more widespread, the symptoms become more varied, depending on where the fungus resides. Here are effects associated with the Brain, head and Central Nervous System:

  • Migraines
  • Foggy Thinking
  • Inability to focus
  • Poor memory
  • Insomnia
  • Depression, crying spells
  • Panic attacks
  • Anxiety, Irritability, anger and Confusion
  • Hyperactivity, Attention deficit (ADD/ADHD)
  • Bad breath, foul taste in mouth
  • Constant craving for something sweet
  • Chronic sinus drainage -which antibiotics don’t help
  • Candida Rash around the groin or in the folds of skin
  • Sleep problems ~~ difficulty falling asleep, or waking up in the middle of the night with a mind that won’t calm down (typically between 1 and 3 am)
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)

Soon, other organs become involved, like the muscles causing:

  • Fatigue,
  • Chronic Pain
  • Ear Ache
  • Muscle Weakness
  • Dizziness

Or the respiratory System:

  • Mucus in throat
  • Sore throat
  • Sinus congestion
  • Chronic post-nasal drip
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Sinusitis
  • Asthma
  • Hay fever symptoms
  • Persistent cough

The skin is often involved:

  • Acne
  • Cysts
  • Hives
  • Night sweats
  • Psoriasis
  • Eczema
  • Dermatitis
  • Fungal infections of the nails & skin
  • Athlete’s foot
  • Body odor

Candida can settle in other organs and the body in general, showing up as.

  • Recurring Vaginal Yeast Infections
  • Recurring Urinary Tract Infections
  • Cystitis, or inflammation of the bladder
  • PMS and menstrual irregularities
  • Itching
  • Cravings for Alcohol, Sugar and Carbohydrates,

start to show up, and it will also often include Jock Itch, Toe Nail Fungus, and other localized outbreaks.

There are studies that show that yeast contributes to a variety of illnesses that it was not previously associated with, such as Anxiety Disorders, Alzheimer’s Disease, Depression, Diabetes, Cancer, PMS, Psoriasis, Parkinson’s Disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Asthma and Alcoholism.

As the infection becomes more widespread the symptoms become more varied and start to include:

  • Sugar and alcohol cravings, as well as cravings for carbohydrate rich food like bread, pasta, or potatoes, etc.)
  • Headaches
  • Inability to lose weight
  • Water retention
  • Weight loss
  • Dizziness
  • Heart palpitations
  • Hyperactivity
  • Chronic Pain
  • Muscle Weakness
  • Skin infections such as athlete’s foot
  • Toe Nail Fungus
  • Itching
  • Low Sex Drive
  • Acne
  • Sinus Inflammation

As more studies are done on Candida infection, evidence is mounting that this yeast is a serious contributor to many illnesses that now include:

  • Alcoholism
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Crohn’s Disease
  • Psoriasis
  • Other forms of auto-immune diseases
  • Premenstrual Syndrome
  • Depression
  • Anxiety Disorders
  • Asthma
  • Addison’s Disease
  • Some forms of Arthritis
